If there is one thing we've learned that make a drive team successful, it's that a simple operator interface makes for much more efficient driving. On our 2005 operator interface, we used simple arcade buttons (two for the co-driver, one not shown) to actuate the grabber and release mechanisms on the robot. The joystick controlled the arm (x-axis) and elevator (y-axis). Using this incredibly simple setup, the co-driver never had to look down to make sure that he hit the right button on the operator interface. Even simple things such as keeping your eyes on the field for a split second longer drastically helped the efficiency of the drive team.
