Photo: Sheet Metal Unibody Drive Train Transmission

Sheet Metal Unibody Drive Train Transmission

Here's a view of one of the two single speed transmissions powering the 4WD skid-steer drive train on our 2009 robot. The gearbox is designed to be used on either the left or right side of the robot, and accepts a single CIM motor. This then runs through a 50:12 initial reduction, and then a secondary 50:14 reduction. The 14 tooth and 50 tooth cluster gears, as well as the 50 tooth output gear are from the KoP AndyMark Toughbox, and the 12t input gear was bought from AndyMark.

A unibody sheet metal transmission was chosen as a unique way to eliminate the number of individual parts necessary in a traditional gearbox, so as to simplify to overall design.
