FIRST Competitions

FIRST Competitions

After six weeks of the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into the fabrication of the robot, here is where it all pays off. Here is where where a thousand different teams, each with its own unique robot, come to compete. Each year, there are five weeks of thirty-three regional competitions held across the world, that run through March and into early April. The culmination of all the regional events is the FIRST Championship Event held April in Atlanta, Georgia. Dubbed "The Super Bowl of Smarts", The FIRST Championship Event is the largest FIRST event of the year, with over 25,000 people in attendance. Read more...

FIRST Vex Challenge

FIRST Vex Challenge

Introduced early in 2005 by Radio Shack, the Vex Robotics Design System was not only an innovative consumer product, but the basis of an entirely new level of the FIRST experience. Called the FIRST Vex Challenge, this program uses the Vex Robotics Design System (now owned by Innovation First, Inc.) as the basis for the "younger cousin" of the FIRST Robotics Competition. Although the robots may seem pint-size as compared to an FRC robot, the inspiration and excitement from this program is anything but!

Ever since 2003, Team 228 has been actively engaged in both the smaller scale robotics and the full-size FRC robots. In 2004, Team 228 hosted a invitational EDUbot/Robovation competition for teams in Connecticut called Block Blitz. When the opportunity arose in 2005 to form a FVC Team, we knew we had to get involved. Read more...

FIRST LEGO League

FIRST LEGO League

Starting in 1998, FIRST decided to venture into a new horizon in robotics competitions - the elementary and middle school level. Using the innovative Lego Mindstorms kits, the FIRST LEGO League employs a science themed-challenge and a specialized research topic to introduce students ages 9-14 to the world of science and technology.

Having grown exponentially over the past eight years, the FIRST LEGO League is now in an international competition of 26 countries, 7,460 teams, 60,000 students, competing in 68 tournaments. Read more...

Promote FIRST!

Promote FIRST!

There is more to FIRST than just building robots and driving them in competition. The very name of FIRST itself leads us to its ambitions: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science of Technology. The actual robot competition, is merely a vehicle for the inspiration of students to not only science, engineering, and technology, but to their full potential as human beings.

Team 228 is always looking to reach out to the community to spread the word about FIRST. From having demonstrations in the cafeterias of our high schools, to marching in the region's largest annual parade with a FIRST float, to going to the local mall on a Friday night with our robots, Gus is always seeking to promote FIRST.
